Intro to HWD

Horsemen’s Western Dressage (HWD) is a horse training program that offers 100% Pure Horsemanship. How do we serve that up? It is really quite simple; we use time, patience, dedication, consistency, and a love of horses to create the ideal environment for learning.  HWD has worked with many horse breeds from around the world believing that every horse is unique and therefore requires a different approach every time.  HWD’s goal is to bring joy and simplicity back to an art that has become far too technical and rigid. Good horsemanship is evident when you see a horse and rider that appear to be one neither one fighting each other, rather they work together feeding each other’s energy that is then translated into a beautiful dance. It is not necessarily the timing of the music in sync with the movement of the horse but rather the subtle communication that lies between horse and rider that makes the dance so eloquent.

HWD uses the bosal as an integral part of its training program. Ruben’s expertise in the use of this very effective and ancient tool is remarkable. It has been used for generations in his family by renowned horsemen dating back 100’s of years. Ruben has polished his skills in this art and enjoys teaching people how to correctly fit and use this tool with their own horses. All horses that are part of the HWD training program are started in the bosal.

HWD was created by the hands of Ruben Villaseñor whose gentle methods have earned him respect by those with whom it most counts; Horses! A horse will never pretend that he admires you or feign loyalty, instead they are a direct reflection of the relationship that each of us has created with them.
